Chris Gibson - Chief Range Warden

“My job as Chief Range Warden rarely sees me in the office. I’m based out on the training area supervising a team of 12 and overseeing operation of the ranges. This work has drawn me out of the city and into the countryside and I have a much better way of life now. I’ll often encounter wildlife on early starts and I can shoot and fish in my spare time.
Landmarc is a company which encourages ownership of your role and I enjoy the independence that brings. I have been involved in several projects including the installation of a wind turbine and project Odysseus (construction of range designs to provide more realistic and effective training for troops deploying to Afghanistan) These give me the opportunity to use different skills and bring with them a lot of satisfaction. Landmarc has always been very supportive of these types of projects, whatever I have needed to make the project a success has been provided along with a significant level of trust.
I’ve also been able to get involved the third party income generation such as escorts for rally recees and weapons testing. Working for Landmarc has given me opportunities that I might not have held elsewhere and it brings a different meaning to the term variety!
The position also brings a level of job-security that even without the current economic climate, would be difficult to replicate elsewhere. There will always be a British Army and there will always be a need to train so the level of stability is definitely a benefit.
Having been working at the site for 14 years, the biggest change I have seen is that of Health and Safety. Landmarc cares about keeping its people safe, huge emphasis is placed on being safe at work and the guys on the ground are empowered to make safe decisions.
Another difference over other companies is the close relationship we have with the client. We have good communications and a good level of support – we work together as one team and the level of partnership is invaluable to making the contract successful. I’m not sure it works that way with other MoD companies.
I would describe Landmarc in three words by saying new, extensive, boundless”.
