DTE South East: Access

There is a presumption in favour of public access to the Defence Training Estates, on Public Rights of Way. This has to be balanced against the over-riding national requirement for safe and sustainable military training and conservation. The first priorities are military training and public safety, followed closely by archaeology, conservation and agriculture. However, controlled public access is encouraged whenever possible.

Public access is only possible on this estate via the marked public rights of way which cross some areas.

Bramley training area
A game shoot operates during the season, details of which can be obtained from the Bramley Training Area Headquarters.

Barossa range
The danger area is generally inaccessible to the public, and is fenced off. Authorised access is controlled and minimal, allowing the natural fauna and flora to flourish.

East Kent training area
There are approximately 36 kilometres of public footpaths and bridleways in this area, although access is often restricted by MOD byelaws and the continued military training requirement.
