Warcop Leads the Way with Wind Power
Leading the way in sustainable power sources, the Estate Management team at Warcop Training Area in Cumbria (DTE North West) installed a wind turbine to provide power a firing range running 24 fixed electric targets. Believed to be the first of its kind, the turbine has significantly reduced the range’s running costs and provides a low carbon alternative to traditional methods of electricity supply.
The project required half the investment of more traditional alternatives and avoided the need to install an electrical infrastructure which would have involved significant excavation in an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
It is able to generate sufficient power to operate all the targets as well as heat and light for the control building.
