Environment, Conservation and Rural Estate Management
Landmarc is responsible for the management and maintenance of the Defence Training Estate’s rural areas to meet the joint needs of military training and environmental protection.
Through a skilled and experienced team of rural estate managers, foresters, nature conservationists, archaeologists and estate workers we look after 220,000 hectares (equivalent to around 300,000 football pitches) of some of the most valuable habitats and landscapes in Great Britain. This includes over 40,000 hectares in National Parks, 70,000 hectares of nature conservation sites, 20,000 hectares of woodland and 1,600 hectares of wetlands.
Day-to-day tasks include forestry services; reservoir, river, pond, flood and sea defence management; roads, tracks, hedgerow, ditch and fence line maintenance and scrub clearance. In addition, working with Defence Estates, local conservation groups and statutory nature conservation bodies, we undertake conservation projects for both the natural and historical environment to ensure compliance with international, national and local conservation objectives.
In addition to these land management services Landmarc drives waste management and recycling processes across the training estate to minimise levels of waste going to landfill.
